Pleat Wall Screen

The Pleat Wall Screen is a new take on the Eames classic, a sculptural form with an unexpected manufacturing method. Quarter inch white oak plywood panels are carefully scored with a 45 degree router bit on the diagonal. The resulting grooves are kept just short of going through so that the outer veneer serves as living hinge. This hinge allows the routed panels to be glued and clamped, creating a faceted plywood panel without the need of a vacuum bag or clamping press. The faceted panels are then fastened to one another with white oak splines and brass set screws.
